Millennium Anodizing Process

Type II (Conventional)

Softcoat Anodizing

Class 1: Clear

Class 2: Dyed Black, Red, Green, Blue, Gold, Purple, Orange, and Pink

​

Typical Thickness: 0.3 to 0.8 mils thick

  • Conventional anodizing process
  • Offers good protection for value


Type III 

Hardcoat Anodizing

Class 1: Clear

Class 2: Dyed Black

​

Typical Thickness: 1-3 mils thick

  • Extremely hard, dense, and wear resistant aluminum oxide
  • Harder than some tool steels
  • Corrosion resistance of stainless steel
  • Rockwell 65 (C-Scale)

  • Teflon Impregnation
  • Passivating
  • Aluminum Etching

Lab Analysis

 Pittsburgh Anodizing's Lab Technicians can provide our customers with the following Lab Services:

  • Salt Spray Test (ASTM B117)
  • Coating Weight Test (ASTM A137)
  • Acid Dissolution Test (ADTB680)
  • Tabor Abrasion Test (FED-STD 141)
  • Coating Thickness Test (ASTM B244)
    • This is used to measure the thickness of anodized coatings of aluminum using eddy currents.​
